Why is my Xfinity service not working? ›

Check to see if a service outage has been reported in your area by signing into your account and checking the Status Center, or register your phone to receive text alerts and text “Out” to 266278. If you're a Comcast Business customer, go to our Service Status Center to check your service health.

Troubleshooting steps

Hand-tighten all cable connections to make sure they're not loose. If using an HDMI cable to connect the X1 TV Box to the TV, confirm that it's plugged into the proper locations. Power on both the TV and the X1 TV Box. Confirm that the TV is set to the proper input.

What is Downtime and how does it work? Setting up a scheduled pause through Downtime allows you to automatically pause WiFi access over your home network during scheduled times for all devices assigned to a person.

Check the device WiFi settings to ensure WiFi is on. Confirm the equipment cables are plugged in and the coaxial cable has been tightened as much as possible using your fingers to both the wall outlet and your modem or gateway. Make sure you are within a reachable WiFi coverage area from the modem or router.

To see if the Device Connection Test is available to you, go to the Xfinity app, select WiFi, then View WiFi equipment and Internet Health. If you see a Full Network Test tile or the option to Select a Device to Test (with a list of all your connected devices), then you can check if your device connections are healthy.

Restart Gateway. The most common method to fix the “no Internet access” issue is to restart the gateway. Just power off/unplug your gateway, wait for several minutes or so, and power on/re-plug the gateway again to see whether you can connect to your Internet or not.

Press the A button on your remote control, or visit the Help section in Settings. (Saying “System Refresh” into your Voice Remote will take you to step three.) Highlight the System Refresh tile, and press OK.

You can troubleshoot connectivity issues using the Xfinity app. Select WiFi and click the Troubleshoot option. If our system detects a problem we can't fix online and a visit is required, you have the option to schedule a technician visit.

Check the cable connection from your TV to your cable box. If there's no improvement, try replacing the cable with a new cable or a known working one. Try connecting your cable box to a different port on your TV, and then use your remote to select the matching input for that port.

The best alternatives to cable internet are fiber and 5G. Fiber has faster download speeds than cable and much faster upload speeds. 5G is on par with cable speeds and might soon overtake them. It also has the advantage of being wireless.

Why does Xfinity keep having outages? Xfinity outages can be caused by bad weather, power outages, cut fiber lines in the wider network, and much more. Multiple short but frequent outages, however, are likely caused by one of two things: Network upgrades in your neighborhood or faulty equipment or wiring at your home.

If this happens, you will need to make a payment to re-activate your services. This payment may include late fees and a reactivation charge, and it will take 48–72 hours to restore your services.
